Parts of Automotive Molding Design

Automotive molding design has 6 main parts.

1. Products design step, it means should come out the product structure for reference.
There have high quality requirements of the trimming parts for car use. Like the rear & front fender protector, dashboard, wheel casing, all of them will be Make sure after deciding the hole care structure. And the car manufacture just need assembling the automotive moldings based on the car structure.

2. Rough design for the automotive moldings

High precise to analysis the every automotive moldings use is the important we should do before designing.
Generally, we will use three-dimensional software to design the parts structure. During design will use some special line to point out where the date couldn’t be changed, the other parts are could be changed, then it is important for the next mold design. Moldings are suitable for assembling is the most important.

3. Then use CAE to analysis

 Then should pay attention to the mould tooling step to satisfy the design.
Then we Should discuss with mold engineer and handcrafts opinion.
Use CAE Software to make mold flow analysis, to see the material flue direction, pressure maintaining, cooling and warping, to promise design the most injection system, cooling system.

The step is for designer to find how to design the mold with perfect. After above analysis, Find problems, could discuss with the customer how to design the good mood. Injection way, cooling system, ejector way, all of them will influence got a good mould and products.

1.     mould design

After finished CAE, then design the mould. Including mould cavity, mould core, Injection way and dimension , cooling way and dimension, and ejector way at the same time, could purchase mould steel also need choice mould steel ,think about the tooling way, thinking it could use standard mould base or not.

2.     Testing, Evaluate before this step, all of the above steps are theoretical, before mold Making , we suggest use does Rapid Prototype, it is for making a sample, it saves money and could find problems.

3.     Then Engineering drawings

CAM software will automatically create mold cavity and core code. To suitable for tooling requirements, should change the 3D to 2D date for tooling.

Importance of Trim parts molding for a car

Trim mould, as an interior parts mould, size will be different according to car types. Here are several point should pay attention to:

1.      Cycle time of trim mould is short. But the mould base purchasing time is long. It will bring more pressure to the design time. The design team should have good design technology and have rich experience in making the mould.
2.      These kinds of mould have many oblique ejectors. When the product is ejected, it is hard to reset. Product volume and oblique ejectors will move. So it is better to add 2 return pin, and add an ejector plate bolt to avoid products deformation at the same time. The side of the products should add baffle.
3.      After we test the mould, the welding line is clear to see. But we can solve by changing position of the gate.

We will design according to your product structure and technology. Mould design could be one cavity. Then we use MOLDFLOW to analyze the injection technology. And according to the product shape and injection technology, we would suggest the gate and the further design.
